Hearts for Housing 2009 was a great success!

On March 6, 2009, the Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing hosted this enjoyable fundraising event at the law offices of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.  Thanks so much for your support!

Missed this year’s event?  Check the LCBH website later in the year for information about 2010′s Hearts for Housing event.

What is Hearts for Housing?  It’s an evening of card games, food, drinks, raffle prizes and fun to support the preservation of affordable housing and tenants’ rights in Chicago! This exciting event, Hearts for Housing, is back for a fourth year and bigger than ever. At Hearts for Housing, individuals have the chance to participate in a Hearts Card Tournament. You can add to the excitement and help with this worthy cause by participating in raffle drawings and the silent auction to win great prizes!

There will be two tournament levels, one for beginner players and an advanced level for more serious hearts players.

Tickets are just $25 ($35 at the door) covering the card tournament, food and one drink if you order before March 6, 2009.  Raffle tickets are 1 for $10, 3 for $25 or 8 for $50!

Why participate in Hearts?
Each year, the Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing (LCBH) raises awareness through Hearts for Housing about the challenges facing low-income tenants in Chicago’s private rental market. The proceeds from Hearts for Housing directly support programs which help keep thousands of Chicago households out of homelessness each year. LCBH provides legal representation to low- and moderate-income tenants, protects innocent families from eviction in foreclosed buildings, and helps tenants gain the employment skills they need to maintain a stable income and keep their homes.

How can you support Hearts for Housing and the thousands of tenants in Chicago facing potential homelessness?
You can support this event by becoming a sponsor, donating items for our raffle and silent auction such as gift certificates, hotel stays, services, and quality goods. Most importantly, you can attend Hearts for Housing, buy raffle tickets and tell all of your friends and family about this event!

Enter the raffle and you could win:

  • Two tickets to anywhere in the continental US from United Airlines
  • A private brewery tour and tasting for you and ten of your friends at Goose Island Brewery
  • An opportunity to be a guest chef for a day in the moto kitchen.  You can work side by side with chefs and taste the creations of Chef Homaro Cantu – a competitor on Iron Chef and whose work has been featured in the New York Times Magazine, Wired, and USA Today.
  • A stay at the luxurious Conde Nast rated Sofitel in Chicago.  Cap your stay with a breakfast for two at the French brasserie, Cafe des Architects.
  • A one-year membership at Old Town School of Music for discounts on classes, concerts and at Different Strummer stores.
  • Indulge in high-class decadence at the French Pasty School.  Win demonstration classes to the FPS and revel in the deliciousness of pastries made in the old European style at the country’s best pastry school.
