Eviction Act

Defines the eviction process in Illinois.

Eviction law in Illinois is found in the Eviction Act (formerly the Forcible Entry and Detainer Act or FEDA) which defines the proceedings to determine the right of (and restore) possession to land and property. In 2013, Illinois adopted parts of the Federal Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Law (PTFA), incorporating definition of bona fide lease into the Eviction Act and the Illinois Mortgage Foreclosure Law (IMFL), impacting duration of leases; supplemental petitions; and notice of change in management.
