Volunteer
Legal Department
Attorney volunteers work under the supervision of an LCBH staff attorney on all aspects of client cases, from client intake through case resolution. LCBH will provide training in eviction law, as well as supervision and assistance to volunteers.
Highlights:
- In 2010, volunteer attorneys donated 5,527 hours to LCBH.
- Law students, fellows and volunteer paralegals donated 3,075 hours.
- These services amount to $1,603,875.00 in free legal services to Chicago tenants who could not otherwise afford an attorney. LCBH helped almost 5,000 tenant families with some level of service and impacted many more.
- For law students we require a minimum commitment of ten hours per week during the normal school year. Law students work under the supervision of an LCBH attorney, and focus on client intake, assist with landlord-tenant conflict resolution and preparing documents. For students with 711 certification, experience in court representation is also available.
For paralegal students we require a minimum commitment of ten hours per week during the normal school year. Paralegal students work under the supervision of an LCBH attorney, and focus on client intake, assist with landlord-tenant conflict resolution and preparing documents.
