Going the extra mile: Retervention Attorney Ashley Chong helps a nervous client prepare for court

Recently, LCBH Rentervention Attorney Ashley Chong went above and beyond to help nervous client “Mary” file a motion to seal an old eviction and prepare to appear in court. “Mary” had lived in her apartment for nearly 10 years. She always paid her rent and never had problems with her landlord until she became ill and was unable to work. Making matters worse, there were mold problems and a leak in the bathroom. She had to leave temporarily so the problems could be fixed. The landlord gave her a key to another apartment, but the electricity in the apartment wasn’t working. Mary told her landlord that until the problems in her unit were fixed she would not sign a new lease.

Mary’s landlord retaliated by filing for eviction. Mary now had an eviction on her record, which has made it hard to find an apartment.

Recently, Mary attended an LCBH webinar where she learned how to use LCBH’s Rentervention chatbot to prepare a motion to seal old eviction records. Mary found using Rentervention to be easy but was nervous about appearing in court. LCBH Rentervention attorney Ashley Chong explained the process and even role-played with Mary what she should say at her court date. “I was terrified to go to court. Ashley walked me through everything. We practiced what I should say.” Even though the judge ordered Mary’s eviction sealed, and she didn’t have to give her speech, Ashley’s help made all the difference. “It made me feel more prepared. It gave me the confidence to file the motion, otherwise, I don’t think I would have. It made me more confident to go to court,” Mary shared.
