LCBH 2024 Wrapped

Jan 22, 2025 | Blog

LCBH helped a record number of tenants navigate serious housing issues in 2024. From eviction defense through the Right to Counsel Pilot Project to helping renters in Rentervention’s Virtual Clinic, our staff helped more than 16,500 households.

It wasn’t all-work-no-play, though! In 2024, our team also had some well-deserved wins, shining moments, and fun. Check out our favorite memories of 2024 below:

 On Air with LCBH:

LCBH Legal and Policy Director, Michelle Gilbert, debuted on the Straight Up Chicago Investor Podcast last fall alongside hosts Mark Ainley and Tom Shallcross. Their thoughtful conversation showcased the importance of collaboration between tenant advocates and property owners, who, at the end of the day, are all seeking the best resolution possible. You can catch the episode here.

Cultural Conversations con Café Cito:

LCBH staff celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and Indigenous People’s Day in October with a hybrid lunch ‘n learn catered by Café Cito, a Hispanic-owned café in the Loop. The DEIB Education and Training Subcommittee provided materials on Hispanic and Indigenous history and encouraged a thoughtful discussion about the importance of DEIB in our work. The well-attended event sparked interest in more cultural celebrations set to take place in 2025.

“Friend”-raising with Bernie Kleina:

When the Democratic National Convention returned to Chicago last summer, we jumped at the opportunity to showcase nearly 20 rare photographs of the 1968 convention taken by Bernie Kleina. Bernie, who is known for taking some of the only color portraits of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in existence, spoke at the event, where he described capturing the unrest of the era and how it relates to today’s political climate.

Take [us] out to the ball game:

Last summer, LCBH staff and our families stopped by Guaranteed Rate Stadium to watch a Chicago White Sox take on the Kansas City Royals. While we enjoyed good food and good company, the White Sox didn’t have the same “sox”cess, as they added to their record breaking 121 losses in the 2024 season! Regardless, we think our social planning committee really knocked it out of the park!
